It’s on to April – No foolin’!

This weekend we turn another calendar page – on to April, and bigger and better things! Just one more month of indoor shows, so Mother Nature had better get her act together in a hurry!

This Saturday, April 1st, we’re off to Madison – Madtown, Mad City, City of Four Lakes – whatever you call it, it’s a beautiful, vibrant college town with the most parks per capita in the United States – 12.7 per 10,000 residents! We’ll be at Warner Park Community Recreation Center with around 80 other Midwestern artists and fine crafters for their “Springfest.” Hours are 9:00am to 3:00pm. Admission is $1.00. Door prizes, free entertainment in the lobby and lots of free parking. Come on down and pick up a great gift for Easter, Mother’s Day or Father’s Day, or something for yourself!

On April 8th, we’re a bit closer to home, at the UW Washington County Campus, 400 University Drive in West Bend, for their annual Festival of Arts. Admission is $2.00, which supports UW Washington County scholarships. This is a GREAT show, (and one of our favorites) with 60 artists selling everything from jewelry, yard art, pottery, photography, wood, fiber arts, and much more! There is a farmers market area, a student art contest, live music all day, a children’s “make it and take it” art area and great food. Hours are 10:00am to 4:00pm.

No shows the weekend of April 15th – Happy Easter!

April 22nd and 23rd is the return of re: Craft & Relic, at the Milwaukee County Sports Complex, 6000 W. Ryan Road in Franklin. Hours are 10:00am to 4:00pm both days. This isn’t your regular art or craft show. This one is a bit different. As the name playfully indicates, the focus is re(garding) craft…both the concept of craft as a whole and as it applies to re-purposing/reclaiming/recycling materials. Additionally, “Relic” is a nod to vintage and antique goods and supplies, whether up-cycled, restored, or left in their aged glory. Each event is unique, creating an exciting destination market mix of artisans, makers, up-cyclers, collectors, curators, and self-proclaimed Junkers.

April 29th we’re doing TWO shows. One at the Fond du Lac County Fairgrounds, On Martin Avenue in Fond du Lac, at the Expo Building. Hours are 9:00am to 3:00pm. Approximately 80-95 Vendors. All handmade or hand crafted items. Concessions, door prizes, kids craft section and much more.

The second one is new to us – the New World Montessori Art Fair. held at the New World Montessori School, 1101 West Brown Deer Road in River Hills from 10:00am to 3:00pm.

We hope to see you at one of these fine shows! We’re adding new products this year, so you’ll want to stop by for a look!!

Here’s my tip for April regarding care for your wood items – if you have stubborn odors on your cutting board, shred some apple or potato finely. Spread it out on the surface of your cutting board and let sit for 10 minutes. Then wash as normal. The secret is in the enzyme contained in apples and potatoes that causes them to brown – polyphenol oxidase – this enzyme can oxidize sulfurous compounds (like onion or garlic), turning them into odorless compounds. Who knew?!?

Happy April everyone – see you down the road!

Is it really spring?

Well, March is almost over, and we’ve returned from a wonderful two weeks in Palm Springs, California. Mother Nature greeted us with 6 inches of snow on our first day back. What a rude awakening! But now it’s Spring and it’s time to get this show back on the road!!

We’ve JUST added a show for this weekend at the Home & Garden Expo in Fond du Lac. It’s being held at the Expo Building at the Fairgrounds, 601 Martin Avenue in Fond du Lac. Hours TODAY 4-8PM and Saturday & Sunday, 10am -4pm. $5.00 admission, but you can go to their website and print off a coupon to save $1!

Next week it’s on to April and hopefully Mother Nature cooperates. No fooling, on the 1st, we’ll be at the Warner Park Community Recreation Center, 1625 Northport Drive, in Madison from 9am to 3pm. $1 admission.

Then on to the UW Washington County Campus, 400 University Drive, West Bend, on April 8th. This is always a favorite of ours. Lots of great artists, student artwork, good food and helpful seminars. Hours are 10am to 4pm. Admission is $2, and all proceeds go to support the UW Washington County scholarship program.

I’ll catch up with you a bit later for the remainder of April and May shows. But for now, back to the shop to catch up after laying in the sun for two weeks! Have a good one, and see you down the road!

What’s in store for October?

Only a few outdoor shows left for this year. We’ve had our fair share of rain, wind, thunder/lightening, etc. We’ll be glad to be indoors, but that means one thing….winter is not far behind. Sigh….as I get older, winter seems to get tougher and tougher to handle. But enough of that depressing talk! On to our schedule for October – by far, my most favorite month of the year! Crisp nights, bright sunshine, fall colors, etc.

Our first stop is Chilton and the Craftoberfest at Cheers!, 26 N. State Street, on Saturday, October 1st, 9am to 3pm. The first 20 people through the door will be treated with a free bloody mary or mimosa!

Then on Sunday, the 2nd, we’re off to Greenville for the Greenville Lioness Fall Craft Fair.

The Greenville Fall Craft Fair is located at the Greenville Lions Park, Greenville, WI, near the intersection of Hwy. 96 & 76 about 6 miles west of Appleton. The park entrance is on Hwy. 76 north of the 96 & 76 intersection. Come see thousands of handmade and handgrown items for sale!  Breakfast & lunch items are available for purchase.

On the 8th & 9th, we make our last stop in Door County for the year. This one is a biggie! It’s the Pumpkin Patch Festival in Egg Harbor. We’ll again be set up behind Decorator’s Gallery, 4633 Market Street. Hours are 9am to 6pm on Saturday and 10am to 5pm on Sunday.  There is TONS of live entertainment, food, artist and craft booths, activities for the kids, etc.

On the 15th, we’re off to a NEW show for us, at the Carl Traeger Elementary School in Oshkosh. 3000 W. 20th Avenue. Show hours are 9am to 2pm. $2 admission. Proceeds benefit Carl Traeger Student Enhancement Upgrades. Refreshments and food available.

To finish up the month, we’ll again be set up at Kohler Food & Wine in Kohler, WI.  Held at the American Club on October 23rd and 24th, Kohler Food & Wine has become one of our most favorite shows! The FREE Gourmet Marketplace will be set up in the hallways around the Grand Hall of the Great Lakes, on the conference level. Hours are 9:30 am to 5pm, both Friday and Saturday.

As of October, there are only 12 shopping weekends until Christmas!! With that in mind, if you’d like to order for Christmas delivery, we MUST have your order by December 10, 2016. You can call us, e-mail us, text us, or message us on Facebook.

We hope to see you….down the road!!

Is summer over already?

I can’t believe Labor Day is upon us. Where has the summer gone? Seems like I say that every year. But every year our summer seems to get shorter and shorter. Or at least it feels that way!

This weekend we’re off to the northwoods – Eagle River, that is! We’ll be set up downtown on Sunday, September 4th from 10am to 4pm. Art and craft booths will line Wall Street – come on down and take a peek at what we’ve been up to!

The following week, September 10th and 11th, we’ll be at Trimborn Farms, 8881 8881 W. Grange Avenue in Greendale for their “Harvest of Arts & Crafts.” The vendors at Harvest are all chosen by a panel of judges for their originality of design and quality of craft. From wearable art and holiday decorations to flawlessly detailed jewelry, paintings, and sculpture, the Harvest Festival features some of the most exceptional hand-crafted work in the Midwest. Hours are 10:00 am to 4:00 pm, both Saturday & Sunday.

Then on the 17th, we return to Holy Hill in Hubertus for their 42nd Annual Arts & Crafts Fair, 10am to 5pm. 220+ artists/crafts display their work in this beautiful setting in the shadow of the Holy Hill Basilica. Entertainment, silent auction, door prizes and great food! $5 admission.

Baileys Harbor is our destination for Autumnfest on Saturday, September 24th. We consider Door County to be OUR little slice of heaven! We’ll be set up in front of the Town Hall, on Highway 57 and County F. There’s live entertainment, great food, and a classic car and motorcycle show, which gets bigger and bigger every year! Celebrate autumn with us in Door County!

Our final stop in September is a new one for us – we’re in Village Park in Menomonee Falls for the Cheery Cherry Fall Fair. Although not in Door County, this show celebrates Door County cherry products – from pies and tarts to jams, juice, dried cherries and chocolate covered cherries! Von Stiehl Winery fro Algoma will have a great selection of their wines, from dry to sweet. Food booths, live music, children’s area, Silent Auction and all forms of arts and crafts!

Celebrate fall with us and one of these outstanding shows!

We hope to see you….down the road!

This weekend – on to Green Lake!

Sorry I was remiss in posting where we were last weekend. With both of us still working outside our home, sometimes the hours can just whiz past us without us even realizing the week has ended. When we’re not at our jobs, we’re at our full time job of creating functional woodcrafts! My favorite line is “sleep is overrated.”

Now on to where we are this weekend – Green Lake! This is one of our favorites. It’s in a beautiful setting at Playground Park along the Mill Pond. The address is 547 Mill St. Show hours on Saturday: 10am to 5pm, and on Sunday, 10am – 4pm.

The Green Lake Fine Art Show is heralded as one of the Midwest’s finest art shows. The show has received the Green Lake Magazine’s Reader’s Poll Award for “Favorite Attraction” for 8 years. Each year over 600 applications are requested by artists. Only artists who meet the eligibility requirements are selected for this unique and highly regarded show. We’re proud and honored to be included in this show.

Green Lake has always been a beloved artists’ community. But the Fine Art Show goes beyond;  artists from around the state and other parts of the country as well as those who live right in Green Lake, descend on our little hamlet.  The Fine Art Show jurists pride themselves on selecting art in all mediums for their summer show that will be rich in quality yet diverse in content. Every visitor will connect with at least one artist’s work, though it is likely you’ll connect with many. Visitors are invited to leisurely walk among the artist’s displays in Playground Park. Have a conversation and learn what inspired them or just absorb the lovely works of art. You’ll feel artistic passion all around, and when you want to take some of that home with you, it’s easy. All artists’ works are for purchase, allowing you to permanently continue your appreciation at home. Two and three dimensional art abounds in every medium, including oil paintings, watercolors, acrylics, drawings, photography, digital art, mixed media, sculpture, jewelry, ceramics, glass and wood. With a 40% vendor switchover rate, the show is different every year. The show bustles with live entertainment, piping hot food and cold refreshments. Enjoy the works of more than 100 artists. You’ll be inspired, impassioned and awed.” — Green Lake Area, Chamber of Commerce

We hope you’ll come and see for yourself that this is THE place to be this weekend.
